How I wrote simple hooks that gained me 130,000 followers

Examples, breakdown, and frameworks for you!

Hey,

I truly appreciate you being here.

If you've been following me for a long time.

Thank you for your support; it really means a lot.:)

I know you want to stand out and build a Personal Brand on LinkedIn. But that’s not so easy, is it?

With the sheer volume of content posted daily, standing out on LinkedIn has never been harder.

I’ve learned firsthand how important it is to write a strong hook. A well-crafted hook captures attention and invites your audience to keep reading.

But how do you write a scroll-stopping hook?

Understand the psychology behind a hook.

Ask yourself this simple question:

What will the audience gain from this content?

You only get 3 lines before the "See more" option appears.

Each line has a purpose:

First line: Interrupt the unconscious scroll and promise value.

Second line: Interesting insights to invite your audience to click on "See more."

Let me share an example:

The first line is all about making a promise.

‘The 6 principles of persuasion’

The second line is about following up on the promise.

‘and how you can be influential on LinkedIn’

Simple rules for writing hooks:

  • Keep it short and impactful.

  • Use 5-7 words.

  • Include numbers or stats if possible.

  • Avoid confusing, cryptic, or big words.

Here’s how you can transform a plain hook into a scroll-stopping hook:

Before: Most businesses struggle to connect deeply.

After: 90% of brands fail at storytelling.

3 facts about writing hooks you need to understand:

  1. Understand your audience's desires:

Use the exact words or phrases they are searching for to make your first line irresistible.

  1. Promise results upfront:

For example: This is how you can do {X}.

This approach builds curiosity and gives them a reason to read till the end.

  1. Avoid overhyped claims:

Bold, exaggerated claims harm your credibility in the long term.

(Trust me, I’ve seen enough fake "success story" posts in my six years on LinkedIn. Stay authentic!)
