How to lose followers (& make more money)
But you are stressing over this? REALLY?

If you scroll LinkedIn for even 5 minutes, you will see at least 5 posts about:
'How to get your first 10K followers?'
'I gained 6K followers in a week.'
....
I’m sure you’ve seen them too.
They almost make it feel normal - that to win on LinkedIn, you need a massive following.
But nothing could be further from the truth.
Okay, before you call me a hypocrite, let me say this:
Yes, I have 131K+ followers.
That’s a lot.
(Thank you God for the blessings!).
But here’s the data you don’t see:
In the last 14 months, I’ve gained only around 15,000 followers.
(For a creator with my audience size, that number should be at least 30K–40K.)
My engagement is at an all-time low.
None of my posts gets 1,000+ likes.
And honestly,
I don’t care.
Here’s why:
After a certain point, follower count stops mattering.
It becomes all about attracting the right followers.
If you follow me on LinkedIn, you’ve likely noticed:
I don’t just talk about LinkedIn or personal branding.
Because my content reflects my values.
And that’s a conscious decision.
I’m not writing to impress the algorithm.
I’m not writing to please the masses.
That’s a race I’m not running.
Instead, I’m posting to reach the right audience.
How?
1. By sharing my values
2. By standing in my credibility
3. By speaking from experience
For example:
1. I speak about my faith and God.
2. I speak about the war
3. I don’t shy away from controversy
4. I share my real points of view
The result?
My follower growth has slowed.
My engagement has dropped.
My vanity metrics are not so pretty.
But here’s what actually happened…
1. I was invited to run a LinkedIn workshop for a UK-based organisation.
In the past 45 days, I’ve delivered 4 sessions to 200+ employees.
They didn’t reach out to me because of a viral post or a pretty carousel.
They came to me because my voice stood out.
2. I signed 3 new clients for my 1:1 coaching in just two months.
Because they felt they could trust me.
Because my content spoke to them- not at them.
And that’s what I always tell my clients:
Don’t copy the big creators who use engagement pods to boost their shallow, motivational content.
Don’t follow soulless templates that everyone else is using.
Your goal is not ‘just’ to post content.
Your goal is to build influence.
To build an elegant personal brand.
…A brand that doesn’t need 750 likes or 500 “I agree” comments.
One that commands quiet respect.
And that doesn’t come from imitation.
Say the unpopular things.
Stand in what you truly believe.
That’s how you build loyalty.
That’s how you attract the people who matter.
Don’t fake it.
Don’t dilute who you are.
Even if that means losing followers - let it be.
I’ve been building LinkedIn brands for clients for 6 years.
So I can tell you this with confidence:
As cliché as it sounds, “Authenticity is the elegant strategy.”
That’s it.
I’ve been working on this email for 2 hours now.
So I’m closing my laptop to enjoy time with my one true love…coffee.
